Current Volunteer Openings

The Museum needs your help. You will make a big difference by helping in one or more of the following positions:

Position Skills/Tasks
Administration office aide Primarily filing for the Museum's executive director. Weekdays only.
Position Skills/Tasks
Education office assistant Filing, prepare mail packets, data entry, check in and inventory traveling trunks. Weekdays only.
Position Skills/Tasks
Living History Docent Educate visitors about the historic buildings and life in different time periods.  Historic buildings are:  Big Bend Farm, B.O. Wood Commissary, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Bellevue Plantation House, Concord School House, and Seaboard Coast Line Caboose.  Especially need help during weekends, Saturdays, 10am-4pm and Sundays, 1-4pm.  Could also use docents on weekdays when groups are scheduled.
Position Skills/Tasks
Discovery Table Volunteers Using hands-on objects, activities, puzzles, etc., help visitors to learn about different topics.  The Discovery Tables may be located in locations, both indoor and outdoor.  Especially need help during weekends, Saturdays, 10am-4pm and Sundays, 1-4pm.
Position Skills/Tasks
Animal Habitat Docent (Habitat Talker) Using Hands-on items, talk with visitors about the animals in the Wildlife Florida exhibits.  Saturday and Sunday are high visitation times but can use docents on weekdays, too.
Position Skills/Tasks
Animal Encounter Presenters Needed to perform Animal Encounters on weekdays. This is open to adult volunteers who are trained to handle animals.  Needed Monday-Fridays, 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, Saturdays at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, and on Sundays, 1:30 & 3:30 pm.  Training occurs in Aug/Sept, Jan. and May/June.
Position Skills/Tasks
Tour Guides Learn to provide walking tours of the different exhibit areas at the Tallahassee Museum.  Areas include:  Wildlife Florida, Old Florida, and the Big Bend Farm.  Saturday-Friday anytime between 10:00-4:00, Sunday anytime between 1:00-4:30.
Position Skills/Tasks
Fall Farm Day Volunteer - Needed Nov 5th, 2011 To help with this wonderful cultural event. The Big Bend Farm will be busy with syrup making, cooking in the kitchen and demonstrations happening throughout the day. The education program coordinator needs your help to make this event a success.
Position Skills/Tasks
Gardener, Hummingbird & Butterfly Gardens Help maintain these areas as living exhibits. Duties include planting, weeding, mulching and pruning. Mondays-Saturdays anytime between 9:30 – 4:30 (Earlier times available during hot months).

Saturday Matinee of the Arts Volunteers - Feb. 12, 2012 Work under the guidance of the education program coordinator to implement plans for this special event which is scheduled for Saturday, February 12, 2012.
