Visit Time
Generally, a visit of 2 - 2.5 hours is recommended in order to visit the historic buildings, see the animals, enjoy the interactive exhibits, and take in the beautiful surroundings. Visitors can easily spend the day going through the exhibits and grounds in-depth as well. Visitors are encouraged to go through the museum at their own pace and refer to the Visitors Guide to choose the exhibits and areas of the museum that are of greatest interest to them.
During the months that schools are in session, the museum is generally busier in the morning hours when school groups are visiting. Afternoons are generally an excellent time to visit the museum if you are looking to avoid crowds. |
Museum Accessibility
The Tallahassee Museum strives to make its grounds, exhibits, and programs accessible to everyone, wherever possible, with understandable limitations given the historic nature of the buildings and grounds. For more information about the accessibility of the museum, please contact Visitor Services at 850-575-8684.
For Your Comfort
Depending on the time of year you visit, the North Florida weather can vary greatly. A majority of the Museum is outside, so please check the weather for the day of your visit and plan accordingly. The historic buildings are not heated or cooled and temperatures inside the houses are generally consistent with the temperatures in the outdoors. Comfortable walking shoes are also encouraged as our grounds are mostly wood mulch trails, dirt paths and wooden boardwalks. The exhibits are spaced throughout the 52-acre site over varied terrain.
Photography and Videotaping
You are welcome to bring your camera to capture the beauty of the grounds, animals and the buildings. If you intend to use the photography for commercial or profit purpose there is a $25 photography fee, please check-in with our Admissions staff upon arrival.
Snacks and Beverages
The Museum Store sells light snacks and bottled beverages or you can visit our Trail Break Café for an extensive menu of sandwiches & salads. The Trail Break Café is open 10:30-3:30 M-F until 10:30-4:30 Sat and 12:30-4:30 on Sunday. View the latest menu.
